There are longer-lasting options, which include Radiesse and implantable materials like AlloDerm. Tissue from other parts of your body also can be used, such as that taken during a facelift or removed from the scalp area especially for this purpose.

During the procedure, a natural or synthetic biocompatible material, or your own fat, is injected or implanted into your lips. One injection is usually sufficient to produce the desired result. Usually the procedure can be done with no downtime or recovery, and essentially all of our patients resume normal activities immediately. Proper placement of the injected material is important. In procedures done with AlloDerm, a natural collagen sheet made from donated skin, the material is inserted through tiny incisions inside the corners of the mouth. Once the AlloDerm implant is in place, it eventually becomes integrated with the natural tissues. Gore-Tex, SoftForm and soft ePTFE are other synthetic implant options.
