BreastCandidacy/Clinical Trial for Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants have certain advantages over saline implants for women seeking breast augmentation. They tend to be softer and more natural feeling. They are less prone to rippling or wrinkling. They are lighter than saline breast implants. The unique qualities of today’s silicone gel-filled breast implants help make silicone the filler of choice for patients in countries where both saline-filled and silicone gel-filled breast implants are widely available. Given these facts and the precedent of patient choices overseas, it is likely that more and more women will choose to have silicone implants.

Prior to 2006, it was necessary to enroll in a clinical study in order to receive breast silicone implants. The FDA then determined that silicone implants should be made available for general usage. Now, all women aged 22 and older can receive silicone gel implants for cosmetic breast enhancement or for breast reconstruction. In other words, women aged 22 or over are currently candidates for silicone breast implants.

At Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery, we want you to make an informed decision about the type of breast implants to use for your breast augmentation. During your consultation at our Los Angeles plastic surgery center, your plastic surgeon will discuss the pros and cons of the different types of implants in general and as they pertain to your individual goals and anatomy. We have both types of implants on hand, and we will show you exactly how they look and feel.
